Puppy Obedience Training – How to Stop Your Dog from Nipping and Biting

Puppies are a lot like small kids. As the kids feel like biting everything starting from your linens and sheets to soap and slippers, even puppies feel like biting anything and everything including your fingers and toes.

However, proper puppy obedience training can help your puppies from getting into the habit of nipping and biting and protect you and your family from getting bitten by your little friend every now and then.

Since puppies start biting as soon as they discover their teeth because they want to taste everything from the leash to your skin, it is advisable to stop them from doing so from the very early stages of their house training.

It is not requires to opt for puppy leash training to stop them from biting if they have received a good obedience training, plain commands will make them understand what you expect out of them and what not.

The best way of stopping your puppy from biting and nipping is to nip the habit in the bud.

Be stern and tell your puppy to stop right from the first time he starts nipping or biting you. Also make sure that you are only startling him by raising your voice and not scaring him by screaming out loud or punishing him.

You can also opt for methods such as stopping the game when he starts biting or pointing a finger at his nose and asking him to relax or sit when he bites you.

You also need to be very consistent with your training and make sure that your puppy does not get away with even a single instance of biting as that will encourage him to repeat it.

However, your puppy is just like a little baby, he might forget your previous commands when you play with him the next time, therefore, you should provide him with a toy to bite and instruct him that your hand is not his toy.

Once he has learnt his lessons on not biting and nipping everything that comes its way, you can let your children play with him without any worries of their getting hurt.
