Puppy Obedience Training- Teaching Your Puppy the Basic Commands

Bringing a puppy home is one of most exciting experiences you will come across. It is like adding a new member to the family.

However, you might have to put in some amount of extra effort in puppy obedience training exercise.

Though it is said that house training a puppy is easier than house training dog, you need to keep a few things in mind before going about obedience training your little pup.

The traditional method of dog training involves use of lease or collar and needs a little manipulation to teach the puppy basic commands.

However, these measures can get a little harsh at times and can hurt a delicate variety of puppy.

If you have a sturdy puppy of German Shepherd or a Bulldog breed, you could opt for this technique.

But if you have a Poodle or a Chihuahua, it is advisable that you opt for a less severe technique such as giving rewards or good food to the puppy when he listens to you and denying him of the same when he does not.

You could also confine him within the dog gates if he refuses to understand and follow your commands.

If you puppy is not ready to give in to reward training, you might need to be a bit strict and opt for the lease or collar technique.

One of the most common ways of applying the collar technique is by fitting an electronic collar around your doggies neck and keeping a remote in your hand.

Whenever he refuses to obey you, you can press a button and the collar will emit small shocks.

These shocks are of very low intensity and therefore, your doggie will not be hurt, but he will definitely not like the shock therapy and start listening to you.

However, the best way of communicating with your puppy is to create a language for both of you.

You can make use of words such as yes, no, good boy, bravo etc to communicate your sentiments to him.

This might require a lot of patience and considerable time at the beginning, but it will forge a life long bond between the two of you that will last forever.

Once you are able to train a difficult puppy, you can actually call yourself an expert in dog obedience training.
